1. What makes Lit Borracha candles different?

Every candle is hand-poured in small batches in our garage using upcycled craft beer cans sourced from local taprooms in New Mexico and breweries across the country. We turn “trash” into treasure, reducing waste while supporting the craft brewing community.

2. Do you really use recycled cans?

Yes! Each can has been cleaned, prepped, and transformed into a one-of-a-kind candle. & No, we do not ask the taprooms for empty cans that would defeat out our purpose. When you buy from us, you support sustainability, creativity, and reusing everyday materials.

3. Where do you source your cans?

We partner with local New Mexico residents; friends, family, co-workers and even people we meet at markets. Your purchase helps give free advertising and second life to these amazing small businesses.

4. What type of wax do you use?

We use high-quality, clean-burning soy wax. It burns longer, cleaner, and holds fragrance beautifully.

5. How long do the candles burn?

Burn time varies by size:

12 oz candles: ~50–60 hours

16 oz candles: ~70–90 hours

(we have been told they last forever)

6. Are the cans safe to burn as candles?

Yes — absolutely. We take safety seriously.

Most beverage cans, including the ones we upcycle, are made of aluminum and lined with a thin BPA-free (or extremely low-BPA) food-grade liner designed to safely hold liquids. When used as a candle vessel:

The aluminum does not melt. Aluminum melts at around 1,220°F, and a candle flame typically sits between 140–180°F at the container wall, far below the melting point.

The liner remains stable. During our testing, the interior liner does not burn, melt, or release fumes. It is designed to tolerate hot liquids (like beer during pasteurization), so the heat from a candle is well within safe limits.

We require safe use. As with all container candles, they should always be burned on a level, heat-resistant surface and never left unattended.

Our process ensures your candle burns cleanly, safely, and beautifully, while giving that can a brand-new life.

7. Can I reuse the can after the candle is finished?

Absolutely — that’s the whole point! Once finished, clean out the wax and reuse the can for pens, makeup brushes, plants, bar décor, or recycling again.

8. Do you take custom orders?

Yes! Custom scent mixes, bulk orders, event favors, wedding gifts, and brewery collaborations are all welcome. Custom orders are accepted until December 18 during the holiday season. And all year beginning Jaunary 15th.

9. Do you ship?

Yes, we ship across the U.S. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout.

10. What if something arrives damaged?

Message us immediately with photos and your order number. We will replace or refund damaged items — no stress.

11. I'm having trouble with the website. Can I still order?

Yes! If the website is acting up, just send us a direct message or email. We can let you know what’s in stock and process your order manually.

12. Where can I find your candles locally?

We frequently pop up at markets and community events across New Mexico. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for our current schedule — and visit your Sadies of New Mexico to see our best sellers. We are always avliable for pick up in Rio Rancho for free.

Our candles are poured with American Soy Organics Freedom soy wax, grown right in the Midwest. It’s clean-burning, consistent, and supports American farmers — something we take a lot of pride in.

CANS: All of our cans are 100% recycled and repurposed.
